Weekend Adventure in Camiguin

Last 24-26 April 2009, me, Christian and my UP SOLAIR friends head off to the island of Camiguin in Mindanao. The trip did not start right at all. Our flight was an hour delayed due to the insufficiency of the airport traffic control in Manila. Our government should really look into fixing that one. We sat for an hour waiting for approval to take off!!! When we got to Cagayan de Oro everything was in a hurry since we have to catch the barge going to Camiguin. We only had about an hour and a half to reach the port. When we got to there, the barge hasn't left but bad thing was the old barge is not working. The people said that there will be a barge coming in at 7:00 PM from to take us to Camiguin... So we waited and decided to ate dinner at the port. All the time we thought everything will be alright but then we were proven wrong... The barge that came in at 7:00PM will no longer transfer people from the port to Camiguin. This was the moment that we went biserk. I haven't slept for more than 24 hours already. My body wanted to lay down and my eyes just wanted to shut. The solution provided was to check in at one of the lounging houses within the port area or get a fishing pump boat to get to Camiguin. We chose to take the latter.

Once on the boat, I wished that we chose for the first option. The boat was small and I thought that it will not reach Camiguin. I wanted to take back what I told my TL about not coming back to work. It was already 8:00 PM at night and we were off to a different kind of adventure. It was really nerve racking. The whole surrouding was pitch black. The air was warm. The only vision I can see is the small lights from the island. I was seat at the front of the boat and Christian was behind me. He held my hand until I can no longer feel any blood flowing in it. The trip took us around 30 to 45 minutes but man it is the longest 30 minutes of my life. I had these visions that a human body will just sprout out of the water or some sea creature of the night will get us. Luckily, we got to the hotel in one piece and dry. The best thing about getting on the island is the resort that we stayed at. It was a beautiful place. Our room was definitely more beautiful than the one we stayed at in Dumaguete last year.

I slept a good night sleep that evening, thanking God that we all arrived safe and came to see the beautiful sight. The next morning, up and early to take the tour planned for us. We went first to the Katibawasan Falls then to the White Island. The White Island is the best sand bar that I saw in my life. The sand is so white and it felt so fine with the touch of your hand. The water was so clean that you can see the small fish swimming around. We proceeded to Cold springs for lunch and the food in this area is really cheap and tasty, not bad for someone on a budget. We also headed to the soda water pool. We were ask to sample the water and it did tasted like tonic water. The hot spring was our next stop and it was really really relaxing to just dip my whole body in the pool of hot water. The last destination was the bakery where the famous Camiguin Pastel are baked.

We arrived the hotel around 7:00 PM already. With all the body of water, I swam that day, I was still not contented and tried the water in the pool at the resort. I just swam and swam until we had dinner as celebration of Matt's birthday. I was able to drink just one cocktail and headed back to our room to freshen up and sleep. There was no problem sleeping for me that night.

On our way home, no hassles at all. We arrived home safe and sound! The trip was great and there is no regrets at all.

I realized that there are really better places to go other than the famous destinations like Boracay. I told myself that I will try to go to some of the exotic destinations, like Coron, San Jose, the Camaroan Peninsula, Davao etc. I told Christian that I will aim to land at all the destinations where Cebu Pacific flies. Hahahaha.
